 Day 2

Gran PiedraOn our seventh day the plan was to head up the Gran Piedra mountain. I, however, had finally succumbed to whatever had been affecting the group. Personally I suspect one of the batches of sugar cane juice, but we shall never know for sure. I decided to spend most of the day sleeping it off, while most of the others made their way to the top of Gran Piedra and the marvellous views on show there.

Typical Cars Of CubaBy the afternoon I was feeling better, and so ventured out for a wander around the city. One thing I really love about Cuba are the classic cars everywhere. It really makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time. Although one big downside I felt Santiago had when compared with the other places we had visited was the pollution. The air was thick with fumes from the cars and trucks.

We ended the day with some drinks on the roof terrace of a hotel looking out over one of the large plazas. Not as action packed as the other days, but probably the most convenient time to be ill.
