Situated in Shropshire just outside Shrewsbury, Attingham Hall is just the thing for a relaxing day out. A National Trust site, the hall is open to the public and offers them a chance to see the various rooms of the house restored as they once were at certain points in the hall’s history. Although restoration work is in progress there is still much to see with staff available in each room to offer insight, as well as guided tours.
My first thought was that this would be so boring if I was a kid being dragged round this old house. However they have taken this into consideration and provided plenty to keep kids occupied. There is a treasure hunt activity sheet for each of the rooms along with a room devoted to providing kids fun but educational things to do such as dressing up in traditional clothing and learning how to set a table.
The hall itself is only a small part of what Attingham has to offer. The grounds are huge, with a children’s play area, farm and many miles of lovely woodland trails. Dotted about the woods are intriguing carvings made from tree stumps of various animals. One of the main aspects of the grounds is the deer sanctuary. On certain days you can join a guided tour of the sanctuary, but even if you miss these you are still likely to spot them as you make your way round the deer walk.
Attingham Park provides a little something for everyone and is definitely worth spending the time to visit.
